– a 3D scene editor for laying out your world.
– a new visual programming system that lets you create unique game behaviours interactively.
– a sharing system for swapping worlds over Xbox Live.

The built-in Worlds help you get started and come in three types: Sample Games, Tutorials, and Techniques.

Sample Games: Sample Games are mini-games that you can play just for fun. All of them are fully editable, so after you’ve played one you can open it up, see how it works, and change it. Some of the Sample Games are unfinished to provide a start for your ideas.

Tutorials: Tutorials are games that are designed to teach you something about programming Kodu.

Techniques: Techniques are simple worlds that demonstrate useful behaviour – like jumping when you touch a particular terrain type, or automatically chasing certain colors. Both Techniques and Tutorials are found under lessons.

Microsoft Kodu game lab includes a bunch of sample games to get you started and show what the tool is capable of. You don’t have to start from scratch; you can pick up any of the games and tweak it a little or a lot.

Once you have something you like, you can share your games with your friends over Xbox Live. If you are a new user you can start by selecting ‘Load World’. This will let you load and play an already build level.
