Sharing files isn’t a new thing, we have been sharing the files from mobile to mobile, mobile to PC, PC to mobile, mobile to laptop, etc. easily through numerous methods for a very long time.
But most of us don’t have knowledge of how to share files from PC to PC. Although there are very few circumstances under which we have to share between two PCs, we may still need to know how to do this when we buy a new PC.
Transferring files from old PC to new PC isn’t a big task nowadays, we have many methods for this. Here are a few methods to transfer files from PC to PC.
1. Transfer over LAN or Wi-Fi:
If you don’t have any USB pen drives, Memory sticks, or portable hard disks you can still transfer files from one PC to another by using the network and sharing center.
If we connect both PCs to the same network within a range we can create LAN and we can use one PC to search through the other PC’s hard drive and choose the files to be transferred.
Windows 10 has this feature in-built which allows us to set up a home network so it recognizes the other device connected to the same network.
This is the fastest way of transferring files from one PC to another. We need to connect any cables like DVI cables, HDMI cables, etc. to the computer, and the software included with the wire will take us to the file transfer option.
It’s a much easier option to go with the USB 3.0 file transfer it allows you to transfer photos, videos, software, folders, and any media files to Windows PC or Mac faster than ever.
3. Transfer Using Software:
We need to install Laplink PCmover on both PCs and the software will do the rest. We can choose which files we need to transfer to another PC and easily transfer them while connected through an Ethernet cable. The new version of PC mover software supports USB 3.0 and faster transfer.

This is a popular and easiest way of transferring files between two PCs. For this, we need a hard disk (the size of the hard disk depends on the size of the files which need to be transferred) or a pen drive (in case of small size file transfer).
We need to connect the pen drive or external drive to the one PC and copy the file required and then connect it to another PC and paste the file. This is one of the most common ways to transfer files from PC to PC.
This option is the best option when the old PC is not functional anymore. Both HDD and SSD use standard SATA cables to connect to the motherboard.
If we have a spare SATA or eSATA (external SATA) port, connect the old hard disk there. The OS will recognize the new drive and start transferring the files.
We can use SATA to USB converter in case we don’t have an extra SATA or eSATA port. We can also use this as an external hard drive and then after.
6. Cloud Storage or Web Data Transfers:
This is a wireless way of transferring files from PC to PC and we have cloud storage providers like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
Cloud service is safe and allows us to upload and download virtually unlimited sizes as long as we have enough storage space.
We can also try WeTransfer or Plus Transfer to upload large files up to 2 to 5 GB when we don’t want to go for cloud services and this doesn’t even require registration.
We can also consider FilePizza which is a peer-to-peer app, so when we can upload the file to one PC and download it to another PC simultaneously.
We can choose wireless transfer modes of transferring data when the files are of smaller size and while transferring large data it’s better to go for wired transfer mode.
