Although VirtualDub video capture is not full non-linear editing software, it does have a few limited functionalities for editing video files. The unwanted part of the video can be removed from a video file before it is processed, saving hard disk space and time.
VirtualDub does not have support for transitions, so any edits will be abrupt unless the edit points are located at places in the source video that hides the seam. Silent fades to black are a good place to remove selections of video.
VirtualDub has included a smart rendering feature. Smart rendering attempts to identify which portions of a stream must be reencoded and which can be copied closely from the source file. This can save a lot of time, as typically only the regions around an edit must be re-encoded.
